“Our new AC29 was a great addition to our wheel line-up to further
support our position as a technology leader,” commented Rafe Schlanger,
Topolino’s founder. “The AC29 really gives road riders a product
that is truly exceptional. By combining a light weight aero-profile 30mm
rim with our carbon and Kevlar spoke material, we created a wheel that
is aerodynamic, light, strong and smooth,” continued Schlanger.
“Topolino continuously strives to push the limits of wheel performance
and technology. We have had several pro racers riding the AC29’s
for months now and the feedback has been excellent. The riders reported
the wheels to be super fast with even more lateral stability,” remarked
Jason Sommerville, Topolino’s sales manager.
Mr. Colby chose to ride exotic wheels hand-made in Bethel, CT, by Topolino
Technology. “As soon as I started racing on these wheels I was riding
better,” Colby said. “When I pounce on them there is no flex,
and they are so much better when I am out of the saddle and need a fast
wheel.”
WTNH is the local news broadcast for the Connecticut affiliate of the ABC television network and is broadcast throughout the state of Connecticut. It was pretty impressive to see the crew work,” quipped Rafe Schlanger, Topolino’s founder. “We are very proud of what we do here. It is a true combination of advanced materials, high technology, and precision craftsmanship. And we are continuing Connecticut’s rich manufacturing heritage,” continued Schlanger. “We were very excited to be selected by WTNH, but we are also thankful that we don’t have to show up at 5:00 AM every morning,” said Topolino’s Jason Sommerville.See streaming highlights of the TV broadcast: click here
Chicago, IL - The Society of Plastics Engineers, Inc. (S.P.E.), presented Topolino Technology with top honors at their 62nd Annual Technical Conference on May 19th in Chicago. Topolino's bicycle wheels won first place in the S.P.E.'s annual International Product Design Award Competition. Raphael Schlanger, Topolino founder and president, accepted the award and honorarium. "We knew significant performance and weight benefits could be realized by integrating a composite spoke and hub shell, but the technology literally didn't exist. We really had to re-think the whole way the wheel is constructed. It's a great feeling to have our final product, after of years of intense development, recognized by such a distinguished group of fellow engineers," remarked Schlanger. The S.P.E. design competition is truly a global contest, as the organization
boasts a worldwide membership of over 25,000 scientists and engineers.
The S.P.E. has become the recognized medium of communication amongst Topolino's wheels, which became available to the public in August of
2002, employ a unique construction technique, where spokes made from a
combination of carbon and Kevlar fibers span all the way across the wheel
and are captured in a carbon fiber composite hub shell. The design is
said to virtually eliminate spoke fatigue failures, and result in a clincher
wheelset weighing only 1,390 grams. Topolino recently introduced a deep-section
carbon-rimmed tubular wheelset said to weigh 1170 grams. The company is
based in Bethel, Connecticut, and builds all of its wheels there by hand. |
