TOPOLINO ROLLS OUT NEW AERO WHEELSET

topolino's new revelation ac29Bethel, CT – Making its debut at this year’s Interbike is Topolino’s new REVELATION AC29! This product is the latest addition to Topolino’s truly innovative line-up of road racing wheels. The AC29 uses a 30mm aluminum aero-profile clincher rim, elliptical spokes and concealed 7075 aluminum nipples, creating an unbelievably streamlined wheelset. The wheels weighs in at only 1490 grams per pair, utilizing Topolino’s proprietary hub and spoke design, where each carbon and Kevlar spoke spans all the way across the wheel and is molded into a carbon fiber hubshell.

“Our new AC29 was a great addition to our wheel line-up to further support our position as a technology leader,” commented Rafe Schlanger, Topolino’s founder. “The AC29 really gives road riders a product that is truly exceptional. By combining a light weight aero-profile 30mm rim with our carbon and Kevlar spoke material, we created a wheel that is aerodynamic, light, strong and smooth,” continued Schlanger. “Topolino continuously strives to push the limits of wheel performance and technology. We have had several pro racers riding the AC29’s for months now and the feedback has been excellent. The riders reported the wheels to be super fast with even more lateral stability,” remarked Jason Sommerville, Topolino’s sales manager.

COLBY CONQUERS MT. WASHINGTON ON TOPOLINO WHEELS

anthony colby wins on topolino wheelsMount Washington, NH - On August 20 a Massachusetts native rode his bike up a formidable mountain in New Hampshire using an ultra-light pair of wheels made in Connecticut. At the center of this New England triangle is twenty-six year old Anthony Colby, one of the stars of TargeTraining, an upstart elite amateur bicycle racing team based in Westport, Connecticut. Colby braved gusting winds at the summit to finish the Volkswagen Mt. Washington Auto Road Hill Climb in second place, just four minutes behind former Tour de France contender and Olympic gold medal winner Tyler Hamilton. Colby, hailing from Dedham, MA, finished the 7.6 mile climb in just 55 minutes and 12 seconds, two places ahead of mountain bike legend Ned Overend, who shattered the record for riders over 40 years of age by several minutes. More than 600 competitors entered the event, gaining 6,288 feet before reaching the top of the famed and formidable Mt. Washington.

Mr. Colby chose to ride exotic wheels hand-made in Bethel, CT, by Topolino Technology. “As soon as I started racing on these wheels I was riding better,” Colby said. “When I pounce on them there is no flex, and they are so much better when I am out of the saddle and need a fast wheel.”

TOPOLINO HITS THE AIRWAVES

Bethel, CT - Topolino was featured on Connecticut’s WTNH News Channel 8 on Friday morning, May 20, 2005. The feature highlighted Topolino Technology, a growing Connecticut-based company; and was filmed live and on location at Topolino’s manufacturing facility in Bethel. The news story included four spots that aired on the morning news as well as spots that aired on both the afternoon and evening newscasts. The broadcasts illustrated the exacting standards Topolino follows when making its high quality road racing wheel. The report also tied in the upcoming Tour of Connecticut stage race.

WTNH is the local news broadcast for the Connecticut affiliate of the ABC television network and is broadcast throughout the state of Connecticut.

“They really came in here and set up shop – satellite truck and all. It was pretty impressive to see the crew work,” quipped Rafe Schlanger, Topolino’s founder. “We are very proud of what we do here. It is a true combination of advanced materials, high technology, and precision craftsmanship. And we are continuing Connecticut’s rich manufacturing heritage,” continued Schlanger. “We were very excited to be selected by WTNH, but we are also thankful that we don’t have to show up at 5:00 AM every morning,” said Topolino’s Jason Sommerville.

raphael schlanger - winner of S.P.E. design award TOPOLINO WINS S.P.E. DESIGN AWARD

Chicago, IL - The Society of Plastics Engineers, Inc. (S.P.E.), presented Topolino Technology with top honors at their 62nd Annual Technical Conference on May 19th in Chicago. Topolino's bicycle wheels won first place in the S.P.E.'s annual International Product Design Award Competition. Raphael Schlanger, Topolino founder and president, accepted the award and honorarium.

"We knew significant performance and weight benefits could be realized by integrating a composite spoke and hub shell, but the technology literally didn't exist. We really had to re-think the whole way the wheel is constructed. It's a great feeling to have our final product, after of years of intense development, recognized by such a distinguished group of fellow engineers," remarked Schlanger.

The S.P.E. design competition is truly a global contest, as the organization boasts a worldwide membership of over 25,000 scientists and engineers. The S.P.E. has become the recognized medium of communication amongst 700c carbon tubular rimscientists and engineers engaged in the development, conversion and applications of plastics and composites.

Topolino's wheels, which became available to the public in August of 2002, employ a unique construction technique, where spokes made from a combination of carbon and Kevlar fibers span all the way across the wheel and are captured in a carbon fiber composite hub shell. The design is said to virtually eliminate spoke fatigue failures, and result in a clincher wheelset weighing only 1,390 grams. Topolino recently introduced a deep-section carbon-rimmed tubular wheelset said to weigh 1170 grams. The company is based in Bethel, Connecticut, and builds all of its wheels there by hand.
